KALAKSHETRA GUIDED AND NON GUIDED TOUR

Situated on a 100 acres campus in southern Chennai in a distinctively simple style of architecture, is Kalakshetra Foundation, an important physical and artistic landmark of India. Kalakshetra is a haven within the city – a sprawling campus of natural beauty beside the sea. Its open spaces, spreading trees and buildings open to light and breeze, cultivate a spirit of reverence for learning and for the environment.

Kalakshetra offers guided and non – guided tour s of its campus

1. KALAKSHETRA VISIT (NON-GUIDED TOUR)

This is a self – guided tour, where visitors are free to explore the campus on their own (Download the map from the website). They can sit through the Morning Prayer at the Banyan tree, and then loop through various spots such as the Instruments Cottage, the Vishnu Statue, Tagore Hall, Padma Pushkarini, Dance, Music and Visual Arts Department, the Ayyanar Shrine (Village Shrine) and the Crafts Education and Research Centre (CERC). Visitors will also get a chance to see classes in progress subject to the schedule. They will also have a choice to purchase various handloom products like Kalamkari sarees, bed sheets, cushion covers created by the Crafts Education and Research Center.

  • Advanced booking not required

  • Payment can be made on the day it self at the college office by cash only

  • Visitors are allowed from Monday – Friday anytime between 8.30 am – 4.00 pm (please check the Kalakshetra college schedule given below to plan your visit)

  • We are closed on all weekends (excluding 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays from 8.30 am – 12 am only) and public holidays.

2. KALAKSHETRA VISIT (GUIDED TOUR)

This is a guided tour, led by an eminent person well versed in the field of Art and Culture. The walk will take you through the story and spirit of Kalakshetra, while stopping by iconic spots within the campus.
The walk will include an opportunity to sit through the Morning Prayer at the Banyan tree, and then loop through various spots such as the Instruments Cottage, the Vishnu Statue, Tagore Hall, Padma Pushkarini, Dance, Music and Visual Arts Department, the Ayyanar Shrine (Village Shrine) and the Crafts Education and Research Centre (CERC).
Visitors will also get a chance to view classes in progress subject to the schedule.

  • Tour Duration: approximately 2 hours

  • Cost for the guided tour will be based on the tariff given below, however a minimum amount of Rs 4,000 will be levied for a guided tour.

  • Booking will be confirmed only on receipt of advance payment, at least one week prior to the visit

  • Payment can be made by DD/ Internet banking

  • Visitors are allowed from Monday – Friday anytime between 8.30 am – 4.00 pm (please check the Kalakshetra college schedule below to plan your visit)
