BTHS / Course, Fee and Eligibility Details

The Besant Theosophical High School is coeducational and follows the syllabus of the Tamil Nadu State Education Board. The primary medium of education is Tamil, and English medium is offered as an option from Standards 6 – 10. The School prepares students for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination at the end of Standard 10 and the Senior School Leaving Certificate examination at the end of Standard 12. Special evening classes are conducted for students who need extra guidance. Educational tours are conducted every year.

In addition to its classroom education, the school actively encourages students to participate in extra-curricular activities. These activities include Tamil and English quiz, music and drawing competitions, various inter school cultural and sports competitions, Junior Red Cross, Scouts and Guides, and a weekly mass drill for Standards 6 – 10. There is a wood-working room and a qualified instructor on the faculty. Senior students at the Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts provide instruction in dance and music.

The school boasts of a high class laboratory for physics, chemistry and computers. The school provides pure drinking water to its students. An Osmosis Plant has been installed in the school courtesy the Theosophical Order.

Faculty and Staff
The school has a total of 15 teachers and 10 non-teaching staff, headed by the Headmistress K.Charumathi.

Teachers are hired based on qualifications determined by the Tamil Nadu State Board. The school selects experienced and qualified teachers, and continues to give them training. Currently, teachers are undergoing training in computer skills.

The fee structure for High School and Higher Secondary School are collected as per the State Government norms. Fees are minimal thanks to Government aid, and are paid on a yearly basis.

For Higher Secondary the fee is collected in three terms for students convenience.

Students above the age of 5 years are eligible to apply for the first standard. Admission to the school is based on the student’s age criteria. The admission process is administered in the second week of April for 1st and 6th standards and other classes, depending upon strength. Approximately 150 new students are admitted into the school every year. After selection, based upon performance and interview the students are given the required forms for school admission. For admissions enquiries to contact the Principal / Office of the school has a Parent Teacher Association and an Old Students’ Association, where ideas and suggestions are discussed.

Ex-Director of the Kalakshetra Foundation, Leela Samson, is an old student of the Besant Theosophical High School in the period when it was housed in Adyar. Several eminent citizens belong to this fraternity.
